Philip Wainwright

Dr. Wainwright is responsible for the administration of study abroad programs, the activities of the study abroad office and various aspects of curriculum development and administration within Emory College. Philip is also an adjunct assistant professor in Emory’s Department of History. Prior to coming to Emory in 1996, he held a three year position as a Lecturer in Humanities Special Programs at Stanford University where he also served as an advisor for Stanford’s study abroad programs. He earned a B.A. (summa cum laude) and M.A. at Emory University in History and an M.A. and Ph.D. at Stanford in Modern British History. He has been professionally active in international education organizations including in the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Trainer Corps, as SECUSSA (Section on US Students Abroad) representative for NAFSA Region VII, on the SECUSSA Health and Safety subcommittee, and on the Forum on Education Abroad’s Committee on Standards of Good Practice in Study Abroad. Teia Andrews

Having 12 years of experience in the accounting field, Teia brings an abundance of knowledge to Emory and CIPA to further maintain the Accounting Department. Before coming to Emory, Teia worked for a transportation company as an Office Manger for three years. She handled all of the accounting duties while overseeing fifteen employees. Prior to that, she worked for a merchandising company where accounting and payroll was a major part of her employment.

Kenya Casey

Kenya Casey is an Assistant Director for the Center for International Programs Abroad. Kenya advises for more than 20 programs, supervises CIPA’s peer advisors, serves as the liaison for external scholarships and is the coordinator of the Minority Outreach Initiative. She has worked in international education since 2004 and has presented on a wide-range of topics, including: US student visas, advising students of color, and team-building. She is the co-author (with Mary Dando) of the NAFSA publication “Student Visas: What you Need to Know Before You Go!” She has had experience living, studying and working in Africa and the Caribbean. Kenya studied abroad in Ghana during her undergraduate studies and in Ethiopia while in graduate school. After completing graduate school, she lived in Jamaica for two years while working on an adolescent reproductive health project. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University and her Masters degree in social work from Howard University.

Advising areas: Semester programs in: East/Southeast Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Mekong Delta, Mongolia, Vietnam), Europe (Scotland), the Caribbean (US Virgin Islands), Africa (Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda), UPGRADE.

Branka Gajic

Branka Gajic
Summer Study Abroad Coordinator

Branka was born in Gospic, Croatia, which at the time was a part of Yugoslavia and grew up in Belgrade Serbia. She traveled extensively through Europe, visiting Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria and several countries in the Balkans. Branka has been living in the United States since 2001, after what she had intended to be her year of study abroad translated into living abroad. She received a B.A. in Political Science from Georgia State University, with concentration in International Affairs, in December of 2007. She is interested in politics, international relations and intercultural relationships. Prior to coming to Emory she worked for CARE and the International Rescue Committee.

Oksana Gomas

Originally from the Ukraine, Oksana has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from The National Pedagogical University in Kyiv, Ukraine. In addition to several duties as Study Abroad Advisor, she oversees the exchange program with Emory’s partner universities. Her expertise and interest focuses on global and intercultural education.

Kristi Hubbard

Kristi has been working in the field of international education for over 12 years.  As an undergraduate, she lived in Belgium briefly and studied abroad in England; she also spent a month in France in high school.  She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and she received a master’s degree in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina.  Kristi's first professional position was overseas in London where she spent four years as the on-site coordinator for an American study abroad program.  She has been working at CIPA since 2002.

Vallan Kantner

Vallan Melicent Kantner received her B.A degree in International Relations and Art History from Agnes Scott College in May 2007.  During her undergraduate career, Vallan spent a large portion of time in St. Petersburg, Russia, directly enrolled at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University where she received her Russian as a Second Language diploma and studied Russian Orthodox Icons.  Vallan also lived and studied in various cities around Morocco and was directly enrolled at Al Akhawayn University, studying the art and culture of Islam, as well as French and Arabic languages.  In the near future Vallan would like to pursue a Masters degree in Russian Studies, and then afterwards, attend law school to focus on Immigration and Refugee Law.  Along with her Senior Secretary duties at CIPA, Vallan is interested in promoting the knowledge and educating students about the status of LGBTQ people world-wide.

Art Linton

A native Atlantan, Art received a B.S. in Psychology and an M.A. in Religion from the University of Georgia. He is a life-long student of early Buddhism and Hinduism, as well as of early Christian Church history. He occasionally serves as an adjunct faculty member at Georgia Perimeter College, Dunwoody, where he teaches undergraduate world religion survey classes. He also has a certificate in conflict resolution and dispute mediation. Prior to coming to CIPA in 2009, Art was Senior Program Associate with the Institute for Critical International Studies (ICIS) at Emory. Before his time there, Art worked as the Violence Studies Program Coordinator at Emory (1998-2006). Before arriving at Emory in 1998, Art worked as a broadcast news writer and associate producer for CNN Headline News in Atlanta (1994-1998). Art has a passion for folk, rock, blues and pop music, and often performs locally as a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has produced three-full length CDs of his own original music (available on iTunes) and continues to work on a number of musical side projects and live performances at local clubs, coffee houses and festivals.

Hariette Martin

Harriette joined Emory in 1993 working in the Latin American and Caribbean Program at The Carter Center. She transferred to CIPA in 1999.  Currently, she is the Human Resources Representative for the Office of International and Summer Programs and also works with budgeting for CIPA’s semester and faculty lead summer study abroad program.  She has a B.S. in Psychology and has traveled extensively and lived both in Europe and South America.

Walidah Salaam

Walidah has worked in an administrative capacity for over 17 years in public health and governmental organizations.  Although she is recently new to Emory’s study abroad programs, she is inspired and encouraged to continue her higher education degree as a Business major.  In her spare time, Walidah enjoys writing poetry, cooking, and reading.

Melody Totten

Melody joined CIPA in March 2007; she is currently working as the Accountant. Melody brings over 17 years of financial experience having held a variety of managerial positions, including Assistant Controller of Accounting Operation, Assistant Controller of Revenue and Collections and Business Manager with the Board of Regents of the University Systems of Georgia. She provided financial analysis, daily operational support and customer service to the departments.

Dana Tottenham

As an Emory alumna, Dana has served the CIPA office in several capacities since 1996. Her professional areas of interest include the intersections of the fields of applied anthropology, education and study abroad. She has a M.A. in Anthropology from Georgia State University and a B.A. in Spanish and English from Emory. She is passionate about Emory College's international endeavors.
